Company History
In 1905 Shipham & Co Ltd had quite a diverse product range. We manufactured brass valves, gauges, whistles and bells. We provided solutions for various applications including steam trains and boats, beer barrel taps and gas street lighting fittings.
Later in the century, we provided solutions for the war effort including valves for the ministry of defence, during this time we had strong female workforce who worked the manual CNC machinery. We had a purpose built air raid bunkers built under our works for our staff’s safety, as we feared we were a prime target for bombing due to our location and our industry.
During the 1940’s our fears were realised and a bomb was dropped targeting our works. The bomb landed in our works yard, fortunately for our workers and the surrounding area this bomb failed to explode. It was in the early 1960’s that this bomb was eventually diffused and made safe. The bomb is now in a local history museum in Hull.
