Corrosion Properties
- Good for seawater service
- Especially good for pitting corrosion, stress corrosion and corrosion fatigue
- Good fouling resistance
Additional Uses & Comments
- Variety of wrought specifications available, good for trim material
- Low magnetic permeability
- Non-sparking; can be used for oxygen service
- Reasonable thermal and electrical conductivity
- Good Castabilty with suitable design
- Weldable
- Can be heat treated to improve seawater corrosion properties
Cautions
- Low modulus of elasticity, but good yield stress
- Raised face flanges non-standard
- High temperature use
- Observe pressure ratings at higher temperatures
- Should not be used in polluted / H2S containing seawater (in common with 316 Stainless)
