Technical Director to present paper at Valve World 2010

Ron graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from Aston University in 1981 and, from Hull University with an MBA in 2007. He has worked in the design and development of valves for nearly 30 years.

The general trend Ron foresees within the valve industry is that customers are prepared to spend increasingly more money in order to ensure they get the quality of product they require. Witnessed final acceptance tests continue to increase as does the demand for paperwork assuring the quality of the product and material. This clearly demonstrates that customers see this money as well spent if it guarantees a return. Recent events in the Gulf of Mexico can only serve to emphasise this trend.

According to Mr Strang, gaining some acceptance of epoxy resin composite valve will be a significant challenge, particularly as there are no material or valve standards in this area. The material is significantly different to the usual metallic materials and the demand for appropriate quality assurance is therefore difficult to satisfy. Asked what he wants to achieve at this year’s event, he points out that his presentation aims to suggest how appropriate standards along with a suitable quality assurance measures can be provided. It will be an achievement if this approach is both understood and accepted.

Mr David Wang has been appointed as National Sales Manager (China) and he brings with him a vast knowledge of the corrosive & severe service applications that are the established served markets for the wide range of process valves manufactured by Shipham. After graduating from university David held a number of positions within the giant Petrochina group before moving on to positions directly involved with flow control products in the processing industries, the most recent being a similar role within the Flow Control division of the US based SPX Corporation.

Mr Trevor Fairhurst, Sales & Marketing Director of Shipham Valves, commented; “ Over the past five years Shipham Valves have developed a strong market position in the key China industries where our capability and experience of providing quality products to handle corrosive and other severe service fluids has been widely recognised. The opening of our own sales office will not only support that existing base but also boost our future potential business in what is still regarded as the largest and fastest growing industrial region of the world. David brings with him an excellent track record in our served markets and we are very pleased to welcome him on board.”

Flow Group continues investment support to maintain growth of Shipham Valves

The new machining centre, manufactured by HNK of South Korea, was successfully installed and commissioned during February 2010.

The HNK Model 14/16 Vertical Turning Centre has Fanuc controls, full C axis, and is equipped with a 24 station Automatic Tool Change with live tooling and combined 3 and 4 jaw chuck.

The HNK 14/16 Vertical Turning Centre is only the second to be installed in the UK, with the capability of turning 1600mm diameter, a maximum machining height of 1200mm and maximum work pieces of 8000kg in weight will predominantly service the butterfly and dual plate check valve products but can also provide much needed additional capacity to the other Shipham valve ranges.

The Shipham Valves’ Operations Director. Mr Syd Williamson said ‘It is the end of an era replacing the last remnants of pre CNC machining stock that have been part of the workshop for many decades. This new state-of-the-art HNK machining centre further enhances our capability for improved machining accuracy and repeatability, keeping Shipham Valves at the forefront of the global manufacture of quality engineered valve products.’
